Established in 1963, The Drayton Valley Golf Club began as a welcoming 9-hole course serving the local community.
Today, the par-72, 18-hole layout offers four sets of tees for golfers of all skill levels, a well-balanced mix of par 3s, 4s, and 5s, tree-lined fairways, strategic water features, well-placed bunkers, and beautifully maintained bentgrass greens.
The Course
Located 140 kilometres southwest of Edmonton along the scenic Cowboy Trail (Highway 22), The Drayton Valley Golf Club is recognized as Brazeau County’s premier golf destination.
The 18-hole course was designed by Jasper-based architect Robert Milligan in 1985, with the renovations of his back-nine plans completed in 1988. This expansion added seven new holes, including holes 13 through 17, developed within a beautifully secluded and forested section of Crown land. Holes 10 and 18 remain from the original 9-hole layout of the 1960s, and the back nine has remained largely unchanged since it debuted.
The front nine has evolved more significantly over time. Four distinctive holes—now played as holes 3, 4, 7, and 8—were added in the late 1980s and are among the course’s most memorable. A natural creek flowing from the Rocky Rapids Natural Area winds through holes 9 and 3, forming a signature pond that defines the front side.
The remaining front-nine holes were renovated in 2002, completing the Milligan design and allowing space for today’s practice facilities. Since then, thoughtful refinements and updates have continued to enhance the course while preserving the Milligan character.
